This chapter is a big hot mess of a read — but do read it all, especially the last few pages from pp 103 to 108. Consider what “visual sovereignty” is. Consider what Deloria means on pp 234 and 235 — WERE some of the early Wild West and movie players who were Indian being a sort of trickster, and acting toward sovereignty?

To keep in mind while watching or reading:
how are Native Americans represented?
from whose point of view are we seeing?
who are we “supposed” to sympathize with?
who are we supposed to see as credible?
what values does this film espouse?
what might it be critiquing?
