ASSIGNMENT – READ CHAPTER 9 and THE HANDOUT ON FEDERAL INDIAN POLICY TIMELINE. There will be a short quiz on these eras at beginning of class January 31, Thursday.

Note – Chapter 9 material is the fulcrum for this course — important to READ and understand all of it. And it’s very well written and pulls together US policy for last 200 years.

3.  How do “markets kill”? 167-1684. H. Craig Miner (author of the 1975 book, THE CORPORATION AND THE INDIAN) defines corporations on page167. What was the effect on Indians he describes on page 168?

5. How does he define “industrial civilization”? Does this description feel modern and why?

6. Indian Citizenship Act of 1924 –a good thing for Indians or not? Pg 169. Why? Your opinion. 

7.  How did Indians link forces with other minorities in US for common good? Pg 170

8.  What was the Wheeler-Howard Act, and how was its passage as the Indian Reorganization Act of 1934 received by Indian nations? Pg 171-172

9.  What was the Termination Act and when was it passed? Pg 173-174

10. What was the effect of the Indian Relocation Act? Year? Pg 174

11. What is the Universal Declaration of Human Rights? Year? Pg 175  Has the US ratified (adopted) it?
